Ken's work has received multiple nominations for prizes such as Best of the Net and the Pushcart, and he holds an MFA from Texas State University, where his manuscript, Carnival of the Taken, won the McCormick thesis award, and an MA from Salisbury University. He has earned as an adjunct, cage fighter, pizzaiolo, and warehouseman.
When not busy with family or writing, Ken also participates in community theater. Inspired by his son's experience with performance, Ken has had roles in theater productions in the Texas Hill Country with the Chamber's Theater Company in Buda, Texas, as part of the IMAC (Inspired Minds Arts Center) 24 Hour Play festival, and he has a role as the Sheriff in City Theater, Austin's upcoming production of Horton Foote's The Trip to Bountiful, with Guest Director Tracy Arnold. Additionally, Ken has recorded a voice part for the urban fantasy-horror podcast "100 Handed." Beyond the arts, Ken is also an accomplished grappler. He is a 2-time National Judo Champion and a 2-time National Sambo Champion, and he has placed in or won many Judo, Jiu-jitsu, and Sambo tournaments.
